06 October 2017, 1:00pm 4th floor, room 4390, SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, 149 West Hastings Street, Vancouver BC Free Eldritch Priest - Composer, Improviser, Sound Artist & Theorist Eldritch Priest writes on sonic culture, experimental aesthetics and the philosophy of experience from a ’pataphysical perspective. His essays have appeared in various journals and he is the author of Boring Formless Nonsense: Experimental Music and the Aesthetics of Failure (Bloomsbury, 2013). He is also a co-author (with fellow members of the experimental theory group ‘The Occulture’) of Ludic Dreaming: How to Listen Away from Contemporary Technoculture (Bloomsbury, 2017). Eldritch is also active as a composer and improviser and is currently working on a new book about earworms, daydreams, and other lived abstractions. Lief Hall - Multimedia Performance Artist and Musician Lief Hall is a composer, singer-songwriter, director/choreographer and creator of opera, musical theatre, video and installation. Her interdisciplinary installation and performance works explore themes of nature, technology and the body as they relate to mythology, feminism and the production of cultural ideology. Fridays, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM GCA 4390 (Fourth Floor Fish bowl) Meet your colleagues at the School for the Contemporary Arts in this informal weekly series sharing the latest arts-based research by SCA faculty, graduate students and staff. Ever wondered what everyone's doing when they're not at school? Bring a brown bag lunch and get to know a different side of your professors, TA's, and SCA support team. Hear about international research, award-winning projects, and some of our SCA community's intriguing other lives as stilt-walking instructors, underground record store operators, digital horn players and (much) more. Each twenty minute presentation will be followed by an open conversation where you can ask all your most probing questions. Everyone is welcome. Bring your lunch or your post-lunch coffee. The Friday Colloquium is a series of presentations and conversations on Friday afternoons where faculty, staff and current graduate students share their research in short 20 minute presentations. The goal of the series is to open a dialogue and to foster a better understanding of the research interests of faculty, students and staff.
